5/29/15 Robyn

Here we are all set for our first rain day. It actually was on and off all day. Of course when the guys took their rain gear off, it started again! It was a wonderful day in Yorkshire Dales National Park and following the Swale River.

Still love all the walls and sheep.
Stopped at a wonderful tearoom again for lunch.
Then on Muker and to the Swaledale Woolen shop before ending up at our destination in Thwaite where we had a wonderful dinner.

Thwaite to Kirkby-Steven

30 may 2015 - Can't believe our luck, another blue sky day on the C2C. We departed at 9:45 and got to the Jolly Farmer B&B at 18:00 for a 15.3 mile day. Stopped at a farm in the middle of nowhere for tea and scones, then a four mile slog up through bog to Nine Standards. The highlight was the four mile down hill from Nine Standards to Kirkby-Steven.

Reeth to Thwaite

29May2015 - The Cambridge House B&B provided the best breakfast yet for the trip so we weren't on the C2C until 9:30. Made a wrong turn leaving town so put in about another half mile. The rest of the day we basically followed the River Seale to the West until we reached Mucker. After a brief stop at the Swaledale Woolens shop (it hasn't changed since we visited it 19 years ago) we turned off the C2C route and took the Penine Way trail up to the Kearton Country Hotel in Thwaite. By taking the 'river route' we avoided the high ground with the high wind and rain. We did get some rain but less wind and the chance to have lunch at the tea shop in Gunnerside. This route made our 11 mile day a 14 mile day but it was worth it. We arrived in Thwaite at 17:30 so had time to clean up, and warm up, before dinner.

Today we crossed the halfway point of our 192 mile trek.

Fun rest day in Richmond. Walked around the city some and mainly took it easy.
Especially loved all the beautiful flowers.
Then off to a French Restaurant for a wonderful dinner.
Then a fun light show in the back yard of our B and B.

We are truly in James Herriot country! This is my third time with the last time being in 2005 with George and Becca. I love this area!
Experienced our first real rain since our hike in Clun. It was short though and happened three times. Saw more of the wild garlic along the River Swale.
Arrived at Reeth and found our five star B and B, Cambridge House, up the hill and again a beautiful view from our room.
Had dinner at the Buck Hotel in Reeth.

Richmond to Reeth

28May2015 - We left Richmond at 9AM after a fine breakfast at the Frenchgate B&B. A day of rolling hills and after about 7.6 miles a tea break at a farm house cafe. The 11 mile day turned into a 12.4 mile day, and our first rain starting about a mile short of our B&B, the Cambridge Guest House. For our welcome we enjoyed scones and tea.

Richmond Rest Day

27May2015 - After six days on the C2C from RHB we took our first scheduled rest day at Richmond. We've covered 77.4 miles and so far no rain. What luck.

Another gorgeous day! I was actually down to shorts and T-shirt for awhile. Lots of fun fields again and animals. Our stop at Kiplin Hall was a highlight-both our lunch in the Tearoom and the beautiful grounds.

Then there was Bolton on Swale with the church that boasted being the "Burial place of Henry Jenkins who died at the amazing  age of 169".
Our last miles into Richmond were fabulous but even more fantastic was our view from our room of our B and B where we get to stay for two nights! We deserve a rest day after our first approximately 78 miles in six days.

Danby Wiske to Richmond

26May2015 - Danby Wiske to Richmond, a 13.7 mile day turned into a 16 mile day due to trail construction. Another 'flat' day with many field crossings. A highlight was a stop at Kiplin Hall after the first six miles. Tea and scones of course. About half a mile from the Frenchgate B&B we stopped for ice cream cones. Really hit the spot and helped fuel us for the STEEP climb to our B&B. Tomorrow will be a rest day.

5/25/15 Robyn

Today was a day of animals, fields, and getting done early. Flat compared to yesterday. Bella, the dog, from last night didn't want me to go.
Then the sheep.
Then the cows.
Fields of Rape seed.
Then wheat fields.
Then to our destination.
