Claybank to Ingleby Cross

24May, Sunday: After breakfast we were driven from the Buck Inn to Clay Bank, where we ended our trek yesterday, getting started at 9:20 with a steep climb. Our day was 12 miles with six climbs. For the most part we were traveling along the ridgeline with views off on both sides. Most a strong cross wind all day and no rain. 50° was the high. We have had great luck so far with no rain while hiking.

Ingleby Cross to Danby Wiske

25May2015, Memorial Day - A short day today at 9.96 miles, all flat, so departed Park House B&B at 9:20. Today we crossed farm after farm, sometimes through fields of winter wheat and oats, all on public footpaths. Arrived at the White Swan Inn at 13:30.

5/24/15 Robyn

The
Wow! Another gorgeous day! The overnight rain ended before we started out going up up up. And then down down down.  The views were spectacular and again saw lots of families hiking.
Besides lots of sheep, we met some friendly horses also.
The bluebells were out in force as well as the lovely yellow rape seed fields out in force as seen above.

Our B and B hostess, Beverlie, tonight greeted us with champagne and served us a wonder meal meal along with the other six hikers here. Met a fascinating couple Sue and Brent from southeast England. Lots of lively conversation.

Fun day! Still wonderful weather! Beyond the Moors are some beautiful views of the Yorkshire countryside. We saw more of the hunting spots I mentioned yesterday.
Bank Holiday weekend brought many Englanders out in force including the racers that Doug mentioned  and mountain bikers. The course went up this hill. I have a great admiration for these runners since my 48 hour races were on a seventh of a mile indoor track.
We arrived at the Buck Inn in time to start a cribbage game but then Jeff and I went to watch some Cricket.
Had a lovely dinner at the Inn including some Sticky Toffee Pudding. Our host Wolfgang includes German beer which was fun for a variation.

Blakey Ridge (Lion Pub) to Clay Bank

An easier day today, only 9.1 miles, five miles of which was along an old rail bed. We didn't even get lost. Left the Lion at 10:45 and with a lunch stop, along the trail, arrived at Clay Bank at 15:00. The was a race, along the Cleveland Way, that was 110 miles or 160 miles (a 48 hour time limit). Fun seeing all the runners. They'd been on the trail about 21 hours when we saw them. Fun for Robyn as she has run a number of 48 hour races.

5/22/15 Robyn Yorkshire

After our lovely breakfast and stay at The Old Mill, we bid adieu to our hosts David and Lynn.
Off we went to the Yorkshire Moors.

Again, beautiful scenery and I could not believe that at the top of hills we could still see the North Sea and this one ship that seemed to be anchored there. It seemed like we had walked so far!
We saw these shooting stands in the moors like those seen on Downton Abbey and actually ate our bag lunch in one of these sheltered from the strong winds. It's always so reassuring to see the Coast to Coast markers. I wish they were more often.
Our host at tonight's B and B, Michael, was also our "chauffeur" and even drove us to dinner and back.

Egton Bridge to Blakey Ridge

Only a 12 mile day so we didn't leave the Old Mill B & B until 10:20. Not so many hills today and quite a few miles crossing the North York Moors. Constant headwind as we're traveling West. The benefit is that we meet all the folks traveling East. No rain and 67° high.

Upon arrival at the Lion we called the August Guest House and were transported about five miles to the B&B.

Trivia, this B&B has about 700 guests per year, all doing the C2C. About 20,000 people per year do the 192 mile C2C. It's probably the most popular 'walk' in the world.
